VENUE: Main Theater, Paz Adriano Hall, Miriam College, Quezon City

The Philippine Network of Microbial Culture Collections, Inc. cordially invites you to its 12th Annual Symposium and General Assembly. This year’s symposium will focus on the theme “Linking Microbial Taxonomy to Education and Industry”.

Microbial taxonomy is the process of classifying microorganisms. Those with the same characteristics are put together in the same group and are separated from others with different features.

The growing field of microbial taxonomy provides several applications in education as well as in the industry. It allows organizing and establishing vast amount of knowledge about microorgan-isms, thus, serving as a filing system for microbiologists. It is also important in research as it offers vast information about a certain microorganism of interest. It is therefore vital in identifying microorganisms essential in food, pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries.

In this year’s symposium, we have invited speakers who will discuss about how microbial taxonomy is linked to education and industry. The taxonomy of different microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and archaea will also be presented and discussed. It is hoped that through this symposium, many researchers will find better appreciation for the field of microbial taxonomy.
